Рятуючись од сумнівів,
б’ю телеграму собі самому:
вчасколивесьрадянськийнарод
івсепрогресивнелюдствоготуєть
сягіднозустрітичерговийз’іздкпрс,
бажаю тобі великих успіхів,
щиро заздрю, що ось уже тридцять років
ти живеш у найщасливішій у світі країні.
Але й після цього досада не минає.
Тоді я примушую себе пригадати,
що міжнародна обстановка
сьогодні складна як ніколи
і заспокоююсь.

Running away from doubts,
I’m typing a telegram to myself:
whilsttheentiresovietpeople
andtheprogressivepartofthehumanityaregetting
readyforthenextcpsucongress*,
I wish you the greatest of successes,
I’m indeed jealous that for thirty years now
you have been living in the happiest of countries.
Yet even then something keeps bugging me.
So I remind myself that
the international situation has never
been more complicated than today
and this calms me down.
